Choose website keywords by starting with the services you actually sell and the questions customers ask. A useful keyword connects a real customer need to a page that answers it. A popular phrase is not valuable if it attracts people looking for something you do not offer.

Collect language from real conversations

Review enquiries, estimate requests and questions asked before a purchase. Write down the phrases customers use, including the problems they describe before they know the service name. A customer may ask about a leaking tap rather than general plumbing solutions.

Group similar phrases by intent. Someone comparing website costs needs different information from someone ready to order a particular package. Do not force both journeys into the same page without a clear reason.

Give each page a primary job

Assign one main topic to each important page. Related phrases can appear naturally where they help explain that topic. A keyword map prevents several pages from competing to answer exactly the same question.

The homepage may introduce the business, while a service page explains a particular offer and an article answers an educational question. Links should help readers move between those stages.

Validate ideas rather than inventing certainty

Keyword tools and search results can reveal different interpretations of a phrase. Search Console can show queries associated with your own site's visibility after data becomes available. Treat early keyword choices as hypotheses, not guaranteed traffic forecasts.

If you do not have reliable volume or difficulty data, say so. A list of plausible keywords is still useful, but it should not be presented as measured demand.

Write for the reader

Use the main topic in a clear heading and an accurate introduction. Avoid awkward repetition, hidden keyword lists and unrelated locations. Read the page aloud: if it sounds like a search query repeated several times, simplify it.

The goal is a match between question, page and next step. Relevant enquiries tell you more about that match than a large spreadsheet of phrases you never use.
